Changes for the Township Transfer Station

Londonderry Township has been absorbing the escalating cost of taking residents' trash to the Southern Chester Country Refuse Authority (SECCRA) since our township facility changed from a "dump" to a transfer station years ago. This one service is the most expensive line item in our budget! With many municipal expenses increasing, we need to make this service pay for itself. Starting in January 2006, anyone who chooses to dispose of their household trash at the Londonderry Township transfer station will be required to purchase a decal permit. Permits will be available at the Township building starting in December and will cost $150 per year. Residents who move into the township or who wish to start using the transfer station after July 1, 2006, can buy the decal permit at half price for half the year. When you buy the permit you will need to fill out an application and identify the vehicle to which you will be affixing the permit. To help make the transition to the new system, a supervisor will be present at the transfer station for Saturdays in January to answer questions. A notice of the change and procedure will be given out at the transfer station throughout December. We are sorry to have to make these changes but feel it best for the budgetary issues of our Township.

This change will be effective on January 1, 2006.

Recycling at the Transfer Station

In an attempt to resolve some details of the newly adopted Transfer Station permiting program the Board of Supervisors made the following decisions at the 30 January 2006 Supervisors workshop meeting:

With regard to reycling at the transfer station, Londonderry Township would like to promote recycling so the following policy has been made: Residents who have purchased a permit to utilize the Township Transfer Station to dispose of their household trash, may also deposit recyclables in the trailer provided by SECCRA. Other residents are encouraged to use the depository (no cost) at the SECCRA landfill on route 926 adjacent to the Township, or contract with a trash hauler for curbside service.

With regard to the request that permit users be able to bring trash to the transfer station in a different vehicle than that to which the permit is affixed:

At this time we are unable to issue a second permit for an additional minimal fee. We request that if you choose to use a different vehicle to bring trash to the transfer station, please bring the copy of your original application that indicates the purchase of your permit, get out of your car and show that to our attendant, Mr. Richard Simpson. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
